Legal · Terms
The agreement between you and IICTP when you visit this website, read its content or use its verification registry.
At a glance
A plain summary. The full text below is what applies.
Anyone may browse the site and check credentials in the public registry at no cost.
Fair quotation is fine; duplicating our question banks, syllabi or registry is not.
A paper certificate or screenshot is not proof; only the registry confirms standing.
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which IICTP is established and operates. Mandatory consumer rights in your own country are not affected.
These terms are an agreement between you and the International Insignia of Certified Technical Practitioners (“IICTP”, “we”, “us”). If you use the site for an organisation, you confirm that you may bind that organisation, and “you” then includes it.
The site has no sign-up and no tick-box. You accept these terms by using the site after having had the chance to read them. A link to them appears on every page in the footer. We state this openly because an agreement made only by using a site (often called a browse-wrap) is enforced by courts only where the person had reasonable notice of the terms and acted in a way that shows acceptance. We rely on three things: the persistent footer link, this statement, and your continued use. Where a particular action carries real obligations for you, such as sending a request that gives us data, or applying for a credential, we will ask for an explicit tick-box or equivalent step at that point, and that step will control.
If you do not agree, do not use the site.
| Document | Applies to |
|---|---|
| Privacy Policy | How personal data is handled |
| Cookies and Storage | What the site saves in your browser |
| Acceptable Use Policy | What you may and may not do on the site |
| Registry and Data Policy | The public credential registry |
| Trademark and Brand Use | Use of IICTP names, marks and badges |
| Security and Disclosure | Reporting vulnerabilities and research rules |
| Certification agreement (given at application) | Exams, certification, renewal and credential use |
Order of precedence. If two of them conflict, the more specific document wins for its subject. If a conflict remains, the document that protects the individual more wins.
Words in quotation marks have the meaning below wherever they appear in these terms and the related documents. Defining them removes room for argument later about what a word was meant to cover.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Site | This website and everything published on it, in any language |
| Credential | Any certification IICTP awards, such as the ATP®, CTP®, PgTP®, PfTP® and the specialized credentials |
| Registry | The public record of credentials that IICTP maintains and that the verify page searches |
| TPBOK™ | The Technical Practitioner Body of Knowledge, the standard the credentials are built on |
| Content | Text, design, data, software, marks and other material on the site |
| Guide | The Check your experience page and any other tool on the site that suggests a route or estimate |
| Authorized Training Partner | A third party approved by IICTP to give training. It is independent of IICTP |
| Personal data | Information about an identifiable person, as the Privacy Policy uses the term |
| You | The person using the site, and any organisation they act for |
The site is open to anyone who can form a binding agreement under the law where they live. Students and early-career technologists below that age may use it with a parent’s or guardian’s permission where the law requires. You are responsible for using it lawfully in your country, and for any local rule that restricts what you may view or do.
The site describes IICTP, its credentials and its standard, lets you check a credential in the registry, and helps you see where your experience might lead. It provides general information.
Statements about career outcomes can mislead if read as promises. Consumer-protection law in many countries (for example the Indian Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations and the US FTC Act) treats a misleading claim as a wrong even without intent. We therefore separate information from promise, and we describe outcomes only as possibilities.
The Check your experience page applies published rules to the answers you give and suggests a route. It is a guide.
No reliance. You should not pay a fee, resign, enrol in training or take any step you cannot undo in reliance on the guide alone. If you do, IICTP is not responsible for the outcome, to the extent the law allows.
Sitting an exam, holding a credential, renewing it and using it are governed by a separate certification agreement and the published candidate rules, which apply together with these terms. They are not created by anything you read on the site.
Fees, durations, prerequisites and other figures shown on the site are given in good faith and may change. The figures that apply to you are the ones in force when you apply or book, and we will show them to you before you pay. Training fees are set by each Authorized Training Partner and are not part of IICTP’s exam fees. Prices are shown in US dollars and rupees for convenience and may be converted at the time of payment, so the amount charged can differ with exchange rates. Taxes are added where the law requires.
Error in a price. If a figure on the site is plainly wrong, for example a typing error, we will tell you and give you the choice to proceed at the correct figure or withdraw before you have paid anything.
You may use the registry to check a credential. Detailed rules, including what you may do with registry data, are in the Registry and Data Policy. In particular you may not scrape it in bulk, build lists from it for marketing, or present its data in a misleading way. A registry result shows the status of a record at the moment you looked; it is not a guarantee about the person.
Where the site opens your email application to send us a message, the message is yours until you send it. When you send it you confirm that it is accurate, that you are entitled to share what it contains, and that we may use it to reply and to deal with your request, as the Privacy Policy describes. Email is not a secure channel. Do not send identity documents or other sensitive data unless we have asked you to and given a secure way to do so.
The content, the TPBOK™, the site design and the IICTP names, marks and badges belong to IICTP or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other law. Using the site does not transfer any right in them to you, other than the limited licence below.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to view the site and to print or save pages for your own reference, and to quote short extracts with credit. The licence ends if you breach these terms.
If you believe content on the site infringes your rights, write to legal@iictp.org with the content’s location, what right you hold and your contact details. We will review it and act where the claim is made out.
If you send us ideas or comments about the site or the standard, you give us a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free licence to use them, without obligation to you and without naming you, unless you ask us not to and we agree in writing. Nothing you send us in this way is treated as confidential unless we agreed that in writing before you sent it.
You agree to follow the Acceptable Use Policy. Do not break the law, interfere with the site or its security, claim a credential you do not hold, or misuse exam content.
The site links to and loads resources from other parties. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or handling of data. A link is not an endorsement. Authorized Training Partners are independent; any contract for training is between you and the partner.
We work to keep the site accurate and available, but it may be unavailable from time to time, and we may change, suspend or remove any part of it. We are not liable for interruptions beyond our reasonable control, such as network failure, a provider outage or an attack, provided we take reasonable steps to restore it.
To the extent the law allows, the site is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that it will be complete, error-free or uninterrupted, or that any estimate or guide it gives is correct for your case. This does not remove any guarantee that the law gives you as a consumer and that cannot be excluded.
A limit on liability is enforced only where it is clear, fair and does not reach what the law forbids it to reach. We have therefore written the limit narrowly and put the exceptions first.
Subject to the above, and to the extent the law allows, IICTP is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, opportunity, goodwill or data, arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for all claims connected with the site is limited to the fees you paid IICTP in the twelve months before the claim. The site is free to use; the limit reflects that and the information-only nature of the site.
Any claim must be brought within the period the law allows for it in the place that decides the dispute. We do not shorten that period, because a contractual shortening is invalid in many jurisdictions.
If you break these terms or misuse the site, and that causes loss to IICTP or to others, you are responsible for that loss to the extent the law allows. We do not ask a consumer to indemnify us for our own fault.
We may restrict or end your access to the site, or part of it, if you break these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, or if we must to meet a legal duty or protect the site. Before we end access we will usually tell you why and give you a chance to respond, unless the law, safety or an urgent attack prevents it. Ending access does not affect rights that have already arisen, or terms that by their nature continue, such as intellectual property, liability and disputes.
This section must name a law and a forum to be usable. They are not yet chosen, because they depend on where the legal entity is established. They are left open here rather than guessed.
| Item | Position |
|---|---|
| Governing law | The law of the country in which IICTP is established and operates, without its conflict-of-laws rules. Mandatory consumer rights in your own country are not affected |
| Forum | The courts of that country. Mandatory consumer rights to sue in your own courts are not affected |
| Informal resolution first | Write to the Legal Office at the address in Section 22. The parties will try in good faith to resolve the matter for 30 days before starting proceedings |
| Consumers | If you are a consumer, nothing in this section removes the protection of mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, or your right to bring proceedings in its courts |
| Injunctions | IICTP may seek urgent court relief in any competent court to protect its registry, marks or security |
We may update these terms. The date and version at the top show the latest one, and the table at the foot lists earlier versions so that the text that applied on any date can be shown. A change applies from the date it is posted and does not alter a dispute that had already begun. If a change is material and affects a right you already hold, we will give notice on the site before it takes effect. If you keep using the site after that date, you accept the new terms; if you do not accept them, you should stop using the site.
Questions about these terms go to legal@iictp.org. For a postal address for formal notices, write to us and we will send it.
